After being asked to watch my cousin today I decided to take her lrf'ing. We headed for camels island at marsden bay and got there around 11:30 with the tide on the ebb I knew there would be some decent rockpools about that were easy to get to.
We set up using a single split shot, small barbless hook and a small section of isome. After a bit of a scramble over the rocks I started in a rockpool that had a decent size bolder in it and within a couple of seconds of lowering the isome in a long spine sea scorpion darted out and grabbed it. I took a quick pic for the species hunt then returned it.
My cousin was getting a bit frustrated as the blennys she was getting kept dropping off just as she was lifting them out of the water. then eventually she hooked into one and managed to get it out of the pool. It was her first common blenny she was over the moon with it but didn't want to touch it lol. After a quick pic I unhooked it and put back into the same rockpool.
The water in the rockpools was crystal clear and you could see every thing which was ideal for letting her see the way the fish behaved and how they darted for cover when she moved her rod to fast.
After stopping for something to eat we had another couple of hours rock hopping and a few more scorpions and blennys. then it started to rain on and off so we decided to call it a day because the rocks were getting a bit slippery but all in all it was quite an enjoyable day out.
