I've been working down in York on and off of a few months now, traveling down 2 days a week. At the back of the site there is a Canal/River and i've seen people fishing it a few times. I had a word with the locals who tell me there are Pike and Perch in the water, i was sceptical to say the lease, the water was very dirty and looked lifeless. As the weeks have gone on and the water has cleared a bit i started paying more attention, and on day while watching the geese and goslings i spotted a shape below the water sitting in the sun, a Pike only a small Jack but it was there, on closer inspection i was another about 6ft away, now i was paying attention!! Over the past weeks i've seen perch and roche as well so i decided i'd have to have a go. I purchased my rod licence and spoke to a few local lads about if i could fish the stretch or did i need a day ticket, to be honest they didnt seem to know, one lad said "i've fished here for 5 years, never been asked for one", well that wasn't enough for me so i spoke to the guy in the local tackle shop, cracking bloke, told me the area i wanted to fish was free and that it was fishing well at the moment. So headed in to work a hour early this morning with my LRF and spinning rod to give it a go, i tried a few poppers to start with but didnt seem to get any interest, so i put a small meps type spinner on my LRF rod 2 after about half an hour i had a nice little Perch on the bank.
Not down for a few more weeks now but i'll be giving it another go.
