Who's for Tyne Bass ?

I guess Lure fishing is the best place to start ....
I hear of Bass from the local shores at times, but what about from the boat?
Who's the best to help?, whats the tactics from the boat?. is it worth it or are there as many Bass (in season) as cod at the moment ! Nil !
If there are Bass off the Tyne when is the best time of year (or in fact time of tide), to catch, and how???

Hmmm how close to the shore can you get on your boat? Ive got myself a kayak this year and one of the main reasons was so i can hit some of the marks i fish at low tide over high water. I know some kayak lads troll lures along behind them but this is in repetitively shallow water, around 10-20ft. I'd guess if the bass were out there in deeper water you would have had some over the years as by catch. As for time of year i tend to target them latter in the summer May-September.

Your right about the by catch, would have thought we may have had the odd one but none , none to me that is maybe there will be others with differing comments.

There was a lad a few years back who used to anchor behind the first breaker and cast a lure back towards the shore and also a ragworm bait on a rolling lead, he used to get a few Norm......I've been meaning to try it for years, but always seem to get pre-occupied with the wreck fishing..

if you know any sandbanks that hold sandeels it would be a good place to start

Given that you`d need to cover a lot of water to find them, I`d certainly start with trolling as close in as you dare

I believe the Bass were originally attracted by the hot water outlet from Blyth power station. Quite a few used to be caught around there and off Cambois beach. Not sure how many are around now.

When I lived in Kent I used to fish on the charter boats out of Ramsgate. We would head out to the Goodwin Sands to target the bass. The most successful method would be to drop anchor uptide of a sandbar and let the end tackle bounce back over the bar into the gulley behind. Favourite bait would be fresh or frozen sandeel fished on a 12 - 16 foot flowing trace. Because of the tide rip flowing across the sands we would sometimes need up to 2lb of lead just to hold bottom. I don`t know if there are any sand bars like that off the coast up here but if there are it may well be worth a shot.
