  • alright lads

cracking little forum here, ive been using jelly worms and lures the last couple of years(spring/summer)not much success, but like you say, beats a string of daylights and 6oz sinker al day long, really helpful post on the weedless lure, ive tried a few techniques, but when your targetting pollock,as they say,if you dont lose gear your doing something wrong, just a quick question, ive always struggled to cast my jellys any distance,i know distance is not necessary but sometimes is vital, ive tried jig heads but interferes with technique of worm or shad,1 thing im gonna try is a rig i use in the winter for cod,an up and over rig, anyone got any other ideas, ive been using a 2-4oz bass rod,and 2 softer spinning rods, cheers lee

spotted your problem straight away i think---2-40z bass rod you need to go lighter to get distance a bit more.rod i use for bass and pollok is a rod that casts 15-30g with a exstra exstra fas tip

crimp a 2oz ball weight in the middle of 10 inches of Shock Leader that will stop 99.9% of tangles then have 5-7 foot of trace to your sp

You could try a Texas or Carolina rig, google them mate i cant get the picture on on my phone. Another option could be drop shot rig, you can fish you worm weightlessly with a large weight. Obviously the worm is only weightless while the weight is on the bottom.

ive tried and it seems to make using a weedless lure pointless cos you snag up on the sinka,my idea about the up n over has got same problem, sinka dragging along the botom, ive got a jig head mould,so was using 25g-100g jigheads, will think of summit, cheers anyway

Try a Texas rig mate, with the hook rigged weedless, that should sort you out. You can add weight to the front dependant on your needs, casting distance, sink rate etc.

You could easily use a 2oz drilled bullet weight in front if you wanted a decent distance. Scotty has already put up an example of a 'Carolina style' set-up, with the hook length 12inches plus behind the weight. Problem is when you fishing into the rough-stuff you'll inevitably lose gear whatever your choice of presentation. All you can do is try to reduce the risk of snagging. Less knots, joins, swivels loops, etc the better, keep it streamlined.
