The New Lure Challenge 2013

Please note the following changes to the 2012 Challenge

1. We have extended the challenge to fresh water species
2. We have introduced a ID card to be shown in each picture submitted.

The Challenge
Catch as many DIFFERENT species of fish on artificial lures as possible.

The ID Card
Please download and print the ID card from the link below. This is the same card as the Species Hunt ran by Thunderpants.

1st Jan - 31st Dec (2013)

The Boundaries
The UK and Ireland by any means of access (shore, boat, kayak)

To enter simply post a picture including the ID card, on this thread, of your first catch (try to include the lure) and every catch after that. Any photos posted without the ID card will NOT be counted. You can fish as little or as often as you wish, and you can join at any point between the start and end date.

You can use any type of lure you wish, including but not restricted to;

Plugs and Poppers
Spinners
Shads & Jellies
Feathers and Daylights
Artificial Flies

Nice one Phil I'm definitely in. Really looking forward to it, and with it starting in January now, there's not long to wait!!! 3rd year lucky! Lost some decent fish last year for the board. I'm predicting a few well into double figures this year.

I`m sure with some help from the lads you`ll be able to add some sea species too Jim. You`re certainly welcome to pop up here when I start doing a bit of LRF fishing etc.
I`m certainly in this time round, just hope I can get out enough next year

It's fitting everything in Mark, I work abroad so when I'm home wife and kids take priority then fishing
I'm pretty much a full time piker, Winter dead baits and lures, spring lures mostly fishing the lochs of Scotland but more recently English venues including the lake district and rivers.
I've sea fished since being a kid (Nothing serious) Pretty clueless TBH but working offshore for the past 13 years has seen me fish some untapped seas, I bet there isn't many people who can say they have caught a 20lb barracuda on a home made lure made out of an old chrome chair leg,
Norway gives me my sea fishing fix, Which is amazing but sadly not included.

I'm in Hanotangen shipyard near Bergen at present but normally offshore Bergen or Stavanger (Where we can't fish) I normally take advantage of the fishing opportunities when in dock like now.
Norway is prolific for sea fishing and I hear the further North the better, i've never heard of Loppa but good luck I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Bring some duty free as Norway is quite expensive.

Tactics can vary dramatically for this venue. However, the best opportunity for fish will be in the centre of the channel.

So with that in mind,whatever gives you the ability to get the lures into the centre (ish) of the river ideally (50-70yrds). Although there will be opportunities closer in too.

We'll be fishing the last few hours of HW (16:22) just upto and over the HW tide. It's a 5.6m tide so it a biggy there'll be plenty of water and it will be pretty fast flowing.

Ideal Lures would be Power Isome Worms, Aqua Milfles, Strawtail Grubs, small minnows etc. or similar patterns.

Rods, reels and could be anything that's gonna get your bait in the right place, with the right feel and to suit your chosen tactics and the conditions.

Rigs (if used) ideally want to be of the type where you can 'feel the bite' rather than free running. Drop-shot style fishing will work or rigs fished with snood above the weight.

Jig heads will be ok for fishing closer in but the further out you wish to be the heavier you will want to go to make it easier to get there and also to withstand the wind and current.

Don't forget to download and print off your ID card for your photos!
