Get a 9wt set up. Get a weight forward floating line till you know what your doing, although it's worth having a sinking line on a spare spool. Mill end lines are cheap on amazon. Probably THE most important aspect is learning how to double haul so you can get distance. Just starting out myself, double haul is double hard...Last edited by pulp; 12-02-2014, 07:13 PM.

When your learning to cast try using a line 1 weight heavier than your rod, stay away from closures till your confident in your cast ,smaller flys are easier to cast when your starting out. Use a stripping basket when on the rocks or wading , on a warm day stretch your lines now and again use a silicon line spray it will help a bit with distance and straight line lay , always wash your gear down after a session,

I would go for a 9ft 9# or even 10# for salt water.
You will need this if your going to be casting big fly,s.The Airflo 40 plus line takes some beating for distance with big lures.
This set up will also do for Pike if you want to try that.
This year i am going to give it a go with my 12ft 9# double hander teamed with my Skagit and Scandi shooting heads which will cast any fly and no need to overhead cast.
I have been tying a lot of both Sandeel and fish patterns over the winter,so if anyone wants any i will sell them for £2 each...
I will try and put some pics up of these but i only have my crap phone now as i broke my camera.
