BOOM! Nice haul of species Pointer! That has knocked me off the top spot for the first time in nearly 4 months. I don't think I can compete with all of those fresh water species. Still, I've beaten my previous best seasonl by 6 species (so far) so I'm happy..

I haven't been able to do much fishing this year but I should be able to put some time in for the next month and hopefully catch sea species, it wouldn't be right to just have a load of freshwater. I only fish for carp anyway so the other things are caught by accident really so I can't see me getting any other freshwater ones.
Time for some LRF I think to catch those mini species.

There's nowt wrong with catching a load of fresh water species, Pointer, it just shows that you're a good all-round angler :-). It's whithin the rules of the comp, I have 3 myself,and it means i have to learn a few new techniques.

Thanks mate, I like any fishing and there's so many species and different methods I haven't tried yet. I've never caught a Ballan Wrasse so that's something I want to put right soon.
One question... Why are mirror and common carp counting as 2 different species? They are nothing more than man made scale variations of the same species (Cyprinus carpio), as are koi, ghosties, butterfly koi, and doitsu magoi where colour, finnage and scaling have been altered. This is the same with blue and golden trout which are nothing more than man made colour variations of rainbow trout, so they are still the same species.
That is slightly different however to sea trout, which are a natural sub-species of brown trout so technically could be classed as another species (and was at one point classified by taxonomists as a distinct species).
The points you make were mentioned earlier on in the thread. I'm not bothered either way. I've never caught a golden trout and if I did I would see it as something different although not a different species. I still remember the first golden tench I caught but I can't remember my first normal coloured tench.
There will always be debate about man made course fish being stocked in lakes but I quite like the variety. I hate catching Ide,Rudd, roach and bream but I don't mind the odd golden orfe lol.
A valid question mate, as Pointer has said it was discussed early doors. I looked at the different carp species and found there were many different genus for the same family and that the Mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio) was a sub genus of the Common (Cyprinus carpio) so decided it should be ok. The trout question was also raised, last year i think, and it was decided that Sea and Brown trout were the same Species (Salmo trutta) the same goes for the Raindow, Gold and Blue Trout.
As ever this might be something we revise next year and has already been discussed

I can't abide rainbows myself, horrible things they are over here but wouldn't mind catching them in an Alaskan stream or going for the natural golden sub species in california.
I'd love a proper ide from their natural habitat but it would mean a trip to Scandinavia or Poland, 6lb ide on an ultralight set up would be a fair scrap
