Just been out local for few hours over low water chucking the hp's about. Didn't catch anything but had the water explode about 15yds in front of me on 1 retrieve. Didn't feel any hit and consequent casts didn't result in anything unfortunately.
Nearly sh1t myself, you know what its like when there's nothing happening and you get into that monotomny of rythmic cast/retrieve/not expect anything to happen, then it was like somone had just hoyed a breize block into the water. I used to fly fish and have experienced plenty trout smashing at surface lures/flies but have never come across anything as violent as that.
Well at least I now know there's some fish about though

Good sign mate. If it happens again just pause the Lure so its arse hangs in the water then take up the retrieve very slowly again after 5 seconds or so, sometimes they have a second go! ;-)

It was on a pause when it happened, was using a little Saltiga minnow on a dead slow retrieve which has it running a few inches under but when you pause it floats upto the surface. Can only assume it was on a follow then had a slash at it when I paused it.

Had a few schoolies miss my surface lure the other night, I assume they where schoolies because the bigger fish are more adept and don't miss.
