i plan on paying a visit on tuesday with the youngster. what i would like to know is are fly fishers allowed on the south shore amonngst the bait fishers? if not , is there anywhere on the water where both types of fishing allowed? i noticed the north and south shores are designated for one or the other. i dont understand this with it being such a vast water? any particular reasons for this?

    cheers
    mick.

Mick - from what I remember, the north shore is Fly only, the south shore is any method, therefore you could fish both methods on the South Shore.

I think the plan was to give fly anglers more roaming space and they would not get this if bait fishers were in situ.

Places to try - Pow Hill (Fly and Worm) or the Dam Corner,
Both deep areas, especially needed in hot weather!

I fished Fontburn last week, the fish were very deep, approx 10-13 feet!

    Good luck

      thanks james ,
ended up at hunters house then moved back to pow hill in what was the worst days fly fishing i ever had.
for starters there was hardly any water there , couldnt believe the water levels were so low!
no doubt it will be rising again now as it absolutely chucked it down all day along with nasty gusty winds.
it was muddy as hell , all our gear is absolutely minging not to mention the state of my car.
      NIGHTMARE !!!!!
every fly i hoyed out came back either covered in weed or not at all.
the bairn managed 1 little brownie of about 8 oz on the worm just after he dropped MY sausage rolls in the mud.
      i got zip.
a horrible day which has put me off the place for life!!
      cheers ,
      mick
