Anyone recommend a good one or an alternative system. I\'ve forked out loads on them the latest being Airflo ones £4.99 a pop I\'ve managed to get some decent memory free flie lines at last but these leaders are rubbish. Bent as a wriggling Prescott when they lie on the water and they are creating horrible wakes and disturbance. Any help on this matter would be greatfully appreciated, or is this just the way it is.
TIA

build your own that way you can make the leader do whatever you want it to!
heavy line nearest the flyline then step it down to whatever size point you want with different B/S lines, i carry 20lb, 15lb, 12lb, 10lb, 8lb, 6lb, 5 4 3 & 2lb mono all on small spools as well as pre made leaders in the tapers i use most often.
the steeper the taper the faster the turnover or a leader with a long fine point will let the fly float down onto the water
fishing a river, sometimes i will build a leader on the spot just to make the fly do what i want it to do for a particular spot
if i need to get way back under a tree thats close to the water then i make a really steep one to shoot the fly right to the back where the fish are, if i\'m fishing upstream with a nymph in deep fast water and i need to get to the bottom before the current drags the fly away from the fish then i lengthen the point with soft mono cast high and flick the rod backwards as the cast straightens, this tucks the fly back under the line and stacks the leader putting loads of slack around the fly which gives it time to sink before the current straightens everything out and it starts fishing.
once you get used to building your own leader and find out just how much difference it can make to the amount of control you have you won\'t ever buy another commercially made leader again.
hi mick, been extremely busy so sorry for not getting back to you sooner, i use a four turn water knot to build the leaders and a figure 8 loop to attach the leader to the braided loop.
