  • Sweethope Today (Sat)

Arrived at Sweethope today at 8-30am with only a few people there mainly on the boats. Not a breath of wind. I intended fishing the bank, so set off for the south side opposite the boat moorings, wading up to my crotch, hell, that waters cold. Anyway, second cast, into a nice rainbow about 2-1/2lb to a small olive fritz, then another and another, all a good 2-1/2lb. After half an hour, decided to fish the banks on the small lake as I couldn't feel me knees.
Got round there, and a guy fishing with the whole lake to himself said he'd had 8 nice trout on a cats whisker. I fished a little further along from him and was soon into fish as well. He was on a sporting ticket as was I. To cut to the chase, I ended up with eleven fish, best two, about the 4lb mark, total bag would be around 28lb. I lost 4-5 fish off during the fight, and had plenty other pulls from light taps to hard knocks.
Time up after 4hrs got back to the car park, and there was a bloke who had landed a 15lber from the shore, showed me the photo.
All this fo £10. sporting ticket. Thoroughly enjoyable session. Will defo be back there soon.

Couldn't put a fly wrong Chris. got up at half 6 to check the sea, didn't like it, so headed up there. Right choice me thinks.

Chris, no all bought I'm afraid. Got some gear, vice and bobbin etc: had a quick go once but gave up.

Ian, yes, cracking morning. Get up there soon, certainly will enjoy.

Duncan, yes, but all things will revert back to normal soon, but will defo be taking the fly rod mackie fishing round the can this year.

Nice one Arthur what a cracking start to the season. It’s good to read that Sweethope has re-opened, I’ll have to have a look up there sometime soon.

Cracking bag/sessionArthur, I love Sweethope and was gutted when it closed. Early season it always seems to be on fire, then later on in the year on the top to shuttlecock CDC's on the little lake as well.
I have promised to put my trout gear permanently in the car this season so if I go to the boat and the weather scuppers it, off a trout fishing I go!

Your right Graham, early season is a lot easier, once they are really hard to catch I loose interest. Usually by then, I'm boat fishing then anyway, so just leave it till next spring.
