Sharpley Springs Fishing Report 22nd Dec 2005
Big bags of trout have been netted this last week before Xmas, Nigel Haigh returned 35 with Wade Brown of Preston village netting 31 of which he returned a good quality blue at 8lbs and safely returned a 14 pounder. Martin Ruddill caught 20 on a small cats whisker and J Hartland returned 12. T Mc Guan took a 10lb 1oz rainbow and S Langley a splendid 10 pounder on Flexi-bloodworm. Fish in the mid range were caught by Chris Gooch with a 6lb 8oz blue. Rod average 4.8
We are open all through the Xmas and New Year festivities, as ever 365days of the year !
Tactics:
The fishing has been good, particularly as temperatures have been
comparatively mild for the time of year. Buzzers have hatched sporadically and the rainbows have responded to artificials, articularly of the black or pink variety.
Hardy anglers have also seen success with twitched and static bloodworms and with Cats Whiskers presented similarly. The other failsafe lure has been the black zonker though the action remains in the top couple of feet.
The smaller waters such as the Noose, being the quickest to warm up, have seen the bulk of the active feeding and have yielded some good bags. To hedge one\'s bets, try a mini cat on the point, bloodworm on middle dropper and a black buzzer on the top or if all else fails try a blobbunder an indicator.
Fly box; Black buzzer, Pink bloodworm, Diawl bach, Rainbow pupa
Cats whisker, black zonker and White minkie.
