Sharpley Springs Fishing Report
How\'s it fishing:
R Barron from Coxhoe returned three times to be rewarded with a fine fully finned rainbow weighting 11lbs having
netted a total of 22 during the week. Rob Chuter took the biggest fish of the week at 11lbs 8ozs netting a further 10. Plenty of anglers releasing ten or more trout amongst those were Wade Brown from Preston village, G Maddinson, Trevor Wadds and N Haigh from Lanchester with 14.
K Graham of Wallsend had one of those great fighting trout that Sharpley stock regularly weighing 8lbs 8ozs one of 8 fish. Davey Storey used a Nomad to net his ten pounder releasing a further eight.
Tagged fish prize money now totaling over £800
Tactics:
Resourceful anglers have scored the best this week as fish go deeper; knowing the right fly to use is the key!
The more experienced anglers continue to take good bags by reading the conditions hour by hour and being prepared to ring the changes. Buzzers in black or lime green fished on the drift have scored well. Beginners are well advised to try a slowly retrieved black buzzer or nymph on a longish leader and floating line. Allowing the breeze to form an arc in the line is usually an advantage and a deftly placed mend of the line either up or downwind, depending on the strength of the wind can enhance this effect.
Biggish, mainly white, lures are quite a safe bet and even hanging one beneath a bung can initiate a response when times get tough.
The Albert and Alice lakes have been fishing particularly well, though, as usual their are plenty of waters to choose from, often each with their own micro-climate and consequently different\" taking \"patterns.
Fly box;
Black/lime green buzzers, Kate McLaren, cdc f\'s, Diawl bach
Pearly hare\'s ear, Flexi-Bloodworm, Pink devil, Cats Whisker and Zonkers
