Just had a few days at Tummel Bridge in Highland Perthshire. Fished the Tummel (40 yards from the caravan) a few times, first time I\'ve fly fished a river and learnt a few things, like make sure your waders are watertight, my faithful Snowbees are fine splodging in and out of sea surf but up to the tits in river water, no go diggy die doe. 15(?) stone before entering water 22 stone walk back to the van. Also suffered from a lack of local knowledge. Legged it straight to Pitlochry on the first full day there to check out the local facilities with the family (TACKLE SHOP) to find it closed.
Me ...\"It\'s Scotland and that, rural stuff, he\'s probably off for a wee pibroch or summat, I\'ll loiter.\"
Youngest ...\"Why\'s there a huge pile of letters on the floor on his side of the door\"
    Me ....\"B**@cks\"

Got told there was a tackle dealer in Aberfeldy, great I thought, WAS being the big thing, alas no more.

    Next nearest tackle dealer Frasers

Had no luck on the stretch of water I fished although did have a rise while my fly was floating 3ft from me while I looked for a new one. Tiny brownies flipping about. I learned a lot about the ways of the river and how quickly the water from mountain run-offs can change the river level. Kyle was with me as I experienced a noticeable drop in water level (Basically a torrent was no longer flooding through the holes in my wader crotch) and I marvelled to him about how quickly conditions could change, due to galciatic conditions and ****. A gadgy in a Regatta Cagoule with a goretex wife walked along the bank and said that I\'d stand a much better chance of fish now they\'d shut the gates on the hydro-electric plant 400 yard round the corner. I KNEW THAT!!!

Did catch a couple (3) wild brownies on Loch Rannock, about 6 / 10 / 12 oz. and was made up. Technique left a bit to be disired though. I was up at Easter and people were tutting at my crude spinning gear. Came up this time laden with fly fishing kit to be told, Big Rappalas, trolled deep. Trolled some lairy lures on a sinking line behind an Orkney Longliner, they spent most of there time flying 12\" above the surface but got a couple anyway. My day was topped off by returning to meet the safety boat which would moor my boat and take me to shore at the required 5:30pm, only to have to ****ball about till 8:30pm until realising the young ned that had took me out had forgotten to mention it to his highly trained team of specialist outward bound marras before knocking off for the night, that I was out on the loch, Loch Rannock, a big scary place with white horses, a canny chop and life jacket rated for someone under 10 stone. Just about out of petrol I beached the boat myself, had to leap out up to me chinstraps, drag it ashore (Orkney Longliner) and cobble together a rope long enough to make it safe. I drove to the \"BarkingMad.com\" nerve centre to return their Palitoy life jacket and single oar they\'d given me to find the barn locked up. Went straight to their Metereological centre, the boozer attached to a posh hotel, waders full of water. midgyied to ****ery, marched in and asked out loud \"ANYONE FORGET ANYTHING?\" I\'ve never seen so many goaty beards and nature trek sandals shift so quick.

    We had to laugh though.

Oh and managed to bag a Grey squirrel on the way home.

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.
