Back at wellham for a 48hour session on the one and two peg with my dad, I had the right side and he had the left. Even though its classed as a 48our session we wouldn’t be fishing for that long because we had a boat trip for about 10 hours on the Monday to catch some cod. When we first got there I got a mix and scooped some bait out onto the chosen spot, in the mix was some chopped 16mm boilies and some 12mm boilies and some pellet which had been soaked in a bait soak all the ‘nuttas’ range from DNA baits. My chosen spots where about a rod length from the reeds to my right, one in front of me about 2 rod lengths out and the other was just flicked slightly to my left all back leaded down.
For rigs and hookbaits was super simple, I had a hookelngth of about 6 inches and a size 8 hook and a little bit shrink tubing just to kick the eye round a little bit more, the hook baits varied, on one rod I had a cell dumbbell, on another rod I had a 15mm nuttas boilie topped off with some pink corn and on another rod I had two 12mm nuttas boilies. Throughout the session I alternated rods with the hookbaits and tried things such as tipping off the dumbbell with some fake corn, but the corn is always pink due to a confidence thing, I don’t like the colour but it works and that’s why I use it.
On the Sunday I had a common just a little over 2lb which must have been from spawning over the years.
After that fish I had lots of bleeps from my right rod but nothing turned into a solid run.
The next day we left wellham at 5:45 to get to Whitby and spent most of the day there getting back in the afternoon, the fish had time to swim without anglers pressure and it has seemed to do them good, within an hour I had a few fish.
A 12lb 5oz common.
A 5lb 4oz mirror
A 1lb 13oz common.
And a 4lb 12oz mirror.
That’s all I had for the night, the next morning I was awakened by a run and in return was a
15lb 2oz common.
Also resulted from the boat trip I had these two cod plus many more.
