trout flies

hi not that i know much about sea angling but been trying to do it for yrs and yrs but please excuse my ignorance but how many trout flies is there ie 100 or thousands.

There are hundreds of "Traditional"patterns(Drys, Wets and Nymphs),which are used to imitate insects and fish fry.
Then there are Lure patterns of which many don,t imitate anything.
There must be thousands of these.
