  • SAS Pike fishing

I'm just back from a very local pond which was rumoured to have a few pike in it. I've been meaning to give it a shot and this time of year is good due to it being light at 04.30.
We met up at 04.30 and hit it with lures, access is terrible and the first hour we had nothing.
From this I spotted what looked like a small jack, I cast over it and it chased my lure. The second cast it hit the lure and got off. My mate had a go at it as he could still see it whilst I cast into another direction. Bang my lure was taken by a different tiny jack pike. We then moved and after numerous casts bang I hit into another of the same size, possibly last years spawn or even the year before that.
We moved again and split up where my friend hit into 2 pike in quick succession. As he was bringing in the 2nd pike my lure was taken where I immediately shouted over for the net. The water was very shallow and I could see it was a cracking pike for the pond it was in. Quite unbelievable really. It made numerous runs before my mate came over with the net. I indicated it should be ready, where I was wrong it made another 3 or 4 surges away before it was eventually netted. I got a quick photo and put her back.
We continued to fish with 5 fish so far where we were waded up to our knees casting in all directions, we both had pike follow our lures to our feet and with being stationary pike were very close in chasing the lures.
We both had 1 more jack pike each before we had to leave, I had to get back for the kids as my wife is off to work.
So it was 2 hours and 7 fish between us, nice little session. I'll upload the photos when I transfer them off my phone.

Sounds like good fishing. Where was the pond you were at?
