  • Pike fishing

I'm not a fan of dead baiting in summer as the pike can be tempremental with swallowing baits and exhausting themselves in lower oxygenated waters.
However after the recent weather change, low air pressures and new moon I had a 24 hour session. Fully armed with boat, bivvy, lure rods and dead baiting gear.
I caught within 30 seconds and it got better and better. I landed 23 pike with the best being 18 pound.
My mate landed 8, he normally doesn't pike fish so broke his lure duck and pb with a pike of 4.10.
I'll put pics up of the bigger fish when I get on my laptop.

That's a cracking session, I was over the borders myself this weekend for a 24hour. Slow going I only managed 3 biggest going 11lb, never had a sniff on the lures

Nearly bought a fly outfit, maybe next year. I do catch a lot on light tackle though.

There was a Bolam double in this weeks angling mail. This time of year isn't great for dead baiting. I just hit it right with the weather. I normally do well in May after spawning and caught a 20 last May. I know this session was June but it looked like the fish had just spawned and were on the feed due to low pressure.
I won't dead bait in July and August only use lures if I do go out.

When you go out give me a shout and i'll help you out, I know a good runs water about 2.5-3 hours drive from Sunderland.

I got out again Tuesday to the lake distric in search of perch and pike, It was a lures only session on a very very large water.
I managed 3 pike and 4 perch, my boat partner managed 2 perch and 2 pike.

Here is the pick of the bunch.
