Allright lads.
Me and George decided to fish Derwent a change from Hury. After paying it was off to fish the Tower area.It was difficult to cast with the wind straight in our faces but after 5 mins I was into my first trout of about 2lbs caught on a mini Cats. Having been there for about an hour and hard work casting and no further bites it was off to fish above the Sailing club.Within 10 mins of getting there George pulled in two fish in quick succession I followed soon with another two. Fishing was easier as the wind was a South Westerly but the bites dried up and with just the odd tail tug we decided to fish the Meadow. It was blowing a hooly when we got there but after an hour of no bites it was back to the Sailing Club. Changing my fly to a big Cats Whisker I was getting the familiar tail plucks but no definite takes.Just then the wind changed direction to a Westerly, and I decided to fish a small bay that the wind was blowing into and where I hoped the fish would be.
By now I had, had so many wind knots I was down to just the one fly and no droppers, I collapsed my net put it in the D ring on the back of my jacket and waded in at the start of the bay and cast my fly parallel with the shore, I cast, counted to five and started my slow retrieve and that's when the excitement started, a small pluck and then "bang" one feisty rod bending fish on and after a couple of minutes it was nearlly all over for the fish, but the wind had tied my net in knots and as I was trying to unravel it the fish took off again, leaving me "flapping" with my net, luckily the fish was well hooked and eventually landed it. After that I took a further four all on a big Cat. All the fish were as fit as a fiddle and put up a crackin fight shooting off and somersaulting out of the water, some even swimming behind me in a couple of feet of water. In the mean time George had managed to hook at least five fish but only managed to land one of them.
In total my 8 fish weighed 19lb with the heaviest weighing in at 3 1/2lb. What I thought was going to be a quiet day turned out to be a cracker.
