I took up fly fishing after attending a day organised by a group called Ladies Fishing. Ł16 got me a day fishing at Chatton, fly dressing with Paul Little, AAPGAI senior assessor and master in Fly Tying, Double and Single handed rods and casting tuition with Cliff Johnston who has over 60 years fishing experience, a GAIA qualified coach and entomologist. The group is keen to support charities and in particular Casting for Recovery, a Breast cancer support group using fly fishing to heal sufferers both mentally and physically.
The Ladies Fishing group supported this charity, this weekend by attending the Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend to provided the opportunity for people to tie a brooch with funds raised for this worthy charity. As my Mum died from breast cancer when I was twelve this is a charity close to my heart so I decided a trip up the M74 was called for. Not to mention the chance to spend some dosh and see Davie McPhail at the same time. As it turned out he couldnt make it due to family bereavement. Still I got some advice from Paul Proctor and the chance to support Anne from Ladies Fishing. Little did I know that I would end up sitting on the platform tying in front of everyone .
Scary stuff, but here is my brooch.
Paul Young was keen to get involved
I had a great time and spent money too........ New Simms vest and cap Who needs handbags and shoes........
If you know of any ladies who are interested in giving fly fishing a go please tell them to have a look at the ladies fishing website (sorry the link isnt working - just google them)
