  • A little help

I would like to get in to fly fishing but I'm not sure how. I love sea fishing but I think fly fishing has so much more enjoyment. I was just wondering how you get in to it.

Best idea mate is if you know anyone who fly fishes, get them to learn you to fly cast, borrow a rod and reel if possible, if you cant borrow one buy a half decent starter kit and floating line, just buy a day licence in case its not for you, then see if you can find someone to take you to a still water for a few hours. Probs some of the best flies for you to start off with would be a few buzzers ( blacks and reds ) a few nymphs and some lures like cats whiskers,, yellow dancers, apps blood worm, blobs. Where are you from ?

Failing that, if ya go for a lesson at sharpley off terry, you could always fish there and buy some flies off Davy while ya there, makes sense to buy whats actually catching that day, but obviously the more flies you have and all in different size hooks the better chance you have of catching.

i enjoyed fly fishing...but got sick of catching trout...and more trout...and even more trout. lol

oh and did i mention i caught some trout..

best advise is to get lessons and buy cheap stuff...then if you get into it upgrade to summit like an SK4 with a half decent reel and a must! is good floating/intermediate line (nothing worse than trying to cast with washing line) after that just start gathering the thousands of flies you will aquire over the years and catch the trout.
                Bring
                Out
                Another
                Thousand

depend how u wanna go about it if low on cash and your in no rush just get a few casting pointers online and practice on a field to get timing right, for me the enjoyment was the learning to cast myself, the fishing came after. but if u wanna jump straight in to the fishing a lesson would be a good idea and you'll be fishing the same day. mind you, you will learn how to cast a line but it will take years to perfect it!

only if he decides to learn the single and double haul, roll cast, spey cast etc, if he only wants to learn a basic cast it would take a few hours
