Visited Thornbourgh yesterday (13/11/11) with the plan to do a spot of Carping . But on arrival found that blue rope, at intervals had been strung across the water from bank to bank. If any members of the Leazes or 4in1 clubs read this I would like to know the reason behind the rope just so I know.
One theory I came up with, was it to stop the cormrants? But then it hasn't stopped the family of swans landing that were there that morning.

not visited this water before but some clubs use ropes like this to mark out the edges of swims for matches.

Thank's for the input Jason, this small water is near Corbridge,Northumberland just of the A69 and is shared by the 4in1 and Leazes clubs. I dont think the ropes are intended for what you have suggested as I've been on the water when the 4in1 club have held matches but will take onboard what you have said.

Not a member of the club but roping or netting a lake in the winter is designed to stop the cormorants from getting an easy meal. Over the winter they can wipe out a hugh portion of the stocked fish. I think that they do it at felton fence.

Thanks for you input, but I just can't see these ropes having any effect as there spaced to far apart to stop Cormrants getting on the water. As already mentioned if a pair of adult swans and their three signets got on and are happly moving about on the water there's not much chance of stopping a smaller bird.
