    Some old reports

A weeks fishing with Les on our club waters. Thanks again Les, i did enjoy my stay as usual.

    Friday

River Trent, pegs one and two.

We arrived at around 7.30 and got on the wier pags, i had peg two Les had peg one. We had a lot of groundbait, whith included, munched up tiger nuts, old caters, sweetcorn, brown crumb and some continental mix. Baits were, halibut pellet, bolies, strawberry pellets and sweetcorn.

The river was very low, it also started to loose water, the tow in our chosen swims was not to fast.
We got tackle up and started to feed our swims. We must have put about 2 kilo of bait in within two hours or so. We did not have a single bite on the halibut pellet, not the strawberry pellet, nor any of the boilies. We changed to sweetcorn, i had a size 8 barbless hook with 5 kernels of corn for bait

But who cares we were in very pleasant surrounds out in a field with a beautiful scene in front of us, the wier looked tremendous in all its splendour. Gliders flying overhead and the sheep coming down to drink. I was just about to say to Les, " DO YOU FANCY GOING THO THE TOP MEADOW FOR A GO FOR THE BREAM ", then all of a sudden my rod doubled over, A good fighr ensued and i landed this nice barbel, Here in the lovely fish.

Happy as can be and very excited i continued to feed my swim. All of a sudden Les jumped up to get his rod, he too had a tremendous bite, bloody hell he exclaimed, line snap, of course i got the blame for giving him a duff rig. He was soon re-rigged and out.
I looked out of the corner of my eye to see my rod bouncing, i picked my rod up, no need to strike, the fish had hooked itself, another barbel., Nice aint he/she

And the rest of the fish.

    Here's the fish Les caught

    Our pegs

    The wier

I wont go on and describe all of my catch, I went on to catch another 4 barbel and three chubb, altho Les did get one of them in on my line when i was not looking and the fish took my bait. We called it a day at about 6.45pm

Les also got four barbel, that was after being asnapped a few time, he also got three chubb, one of the was i very good weigth. I caught a bream which was about 5lb ish, when it was put back into the water it was off like a steam train, i nor Les had seen a bream move so fast, no picture of it, Les was to slow with the camera, the fish jumped out of my hands and went off at top speed.

    Saturday.
    Thornton Abbey

Les dropped me off at the venue, Les had some business to sort out.
I managed to get a peg on the point, not another angler was there, about an hour and a half later a father and his two sones turned up.
I fished the feeder rod today with the groundbait from yesterdays session.
I was catching from the word go. Skimmer after skimmer fell to me hookbait od red maggot and white maggot. I also tried sweetcorn, i did manage a couple of decent skimmers. Not one RUDD showed throughout the session. The place is well known for them, where had they gone ? who knows.? in all i had around 50 skimmers.Les returned at about 2o'clock, he did manage to land two skimmers on my tackle, LoL. We decided to callit a day and return home. We were both a bit tired after the early start and late finish from the Friday session. LoL

    Two at a time

    Sunday, off to blyton.

A decent day at Blyton. We met Bob there, he was setting up when we arrived. Greetings and hand shakes later i tackled up. Float fishing today. I was getting fish before long, small roach and skimmers. Les was soon catching fish. Then he went onto his favourite method at the venue, floating bread for the crap , carp. I cannot remember how many he landed.
I decided to have a bit of a stalking session after hearing the crap , carp sucking the freebie bread off the surface. I set my feeder rod up and away i went. I was hiding behind the tall reeds. I managed to land two carp, the first one was the better off the two fish, it gave a good account of its self on 6 pound line, the second one was smaller, but great fun.
We had a couple of beers in the Pied Piper, then a supper of pizza, plus one free for spending mor that 10 pounds, LoL

    Les's [s]crap[/s] carp

    Monday, back to lady pit.

We had decided to have an early morning, up for 4am ish and then out, LoL, come 7,30am ish i think Les woke me up. Best laid plans never work out do they, LoL

We arrived at the river at about 9.30am. We went to the top meadow, drove up looking at the pegs, we chose 22 and 23. very comfy pegs. Feeder fishing yet again. The fishing was very quiet. But as ever who cares, in pleasant surrounding on a fantastic stretch of river.
I did manage to land four fish, One roach, two perch and one bream, all sweet corn.
    Here's the bream

The bite off this bream was almost invisible, the slightest of movement, i picked my rod up and gave it a little tug, oh bugger i thought, i'm snagged, then the bream gave a kick.
Les managed to land some roach.

    Tuesday, back to Lady Pitt.

We arrived at 6.45am, pegs one and two were not taken, great stuff. I again had peg two, Les had peg two.
The fishing was very slow again. The weather looked very bleak, overhead rainclouds and a slight wind. We did have a few spots of rain, but nothing to worry about. We sat it out for 5 or 6 hours, BINGOA, the first fish came to my rod, a nice chubb.

Again i had sweetcorn on as hookbait.
Then anther two chubb fell to my rod, then Les landed a super chubb,

I said to Les, bugger it mate, this is my last cast of the day, its looking very dull and threatening in those clouds,
About 10 to 15 minutes later my rod bounced, i grabbed it and the fish was on, I landed another fine barbel.

And here's the chubb caught by Les

We soon packed up after that, just as well the heavens opened.
We went onto a carvery for our breakfast/dinner/tea.

    Wednesday

    Trent Haven Pond

A windy day today, we chose the back pegs so that the wind was on our backs. I fished the feeder, Les set up the feeder and float rod. I dis manage a few fish, nothing flash just 5 roach and a couple pf perch. Les stuck iyt out after being snapped twice in the lilly pads. H eshouted for my long handled landing net, to late when i hobbled down to his oeg, he had landed the fish, this cracking common carp.

We packed up and went away happy chappies.

This has to be my most memorable trip to fish with Les. The three days on the Trent catching the barbel and chubb, and the very nice bream made the visit well worth it. With luck i shall be back down in a few weeks, this time with another fishing chum, LoL

      Ta mate.
      Here's another oldun

      Day one, fishing

      Mill View fishery, Blyton.
A decent day on the bankside. Lots of roach and skimmers. Les and i both fished the waggler, fishing the margins again, very tight to the reeds, perilous if you get a carp, LoL. Les late turned to floating bread tactics on the pole, however this time the carp did not take the bait. I then went onto floating dog biscuits, got one carp of about 3lbs or so. The fishing died off so we decided to pack up. We then went for a carvery at a local pub, NO BEER passed my lips i hasten to ad. Our bellies full we decided to visit another venue. This time we opted for Trent haven. Les got a nice car of about 4lbs, i blanked,LoL. We called it a day at around 6.45pm and headed for Les abode and a nice hot shower. Oh and a couple of beers.

      Day Two

Back to Trent Haven, and what a diffrence the weather was. We arrived at 6.45am and set up. The weather looked very angry come 9,30am or so. We both got a few roach and then the heavens opened up, torrential rain came down, followed by high winds. Our pegs were in a slight dip so the rain cascaded down the bankside. The weather got worse by lunchtime, i think Les and i sent each other a telepathic message, we both jumped up at the same time mumbling, " THATS IT " time to go. We hastily packed the tackle into the car and set of for hme. It was great to get out of the wet clothes and into the red hot shower, Bliss.

      Day three

We went to Dunholme today, met up with Bob, our club mate. The weather, well lets just say it was a complete turnaround from the previous day, hot and sunny. We got there before Bob which in itself is unusual, Bob is an early bird,LoL.
Again i fished the feeder, got a goot count of roach and skimmers. All on red maggot.
A little Robin soon realised that there might be a free lunch on the go, and he let me know he/she was hungry. The Robin sat on my landing net handle and started to whistle, how could i refuse such a nice little thing.

      Day Four.

Today we went to a commercial !!!! yes a commercial, it came recommended to us. We met up with Bob and Alec. However the days fishing was very poor. I had a few good sized roach and nothing else. The place was a caravan site with a fishing pond, a great set up, hook up facilities with a shwer block just up the way by 2 or 3 minutes walk. A nice bar which serves food. Welton Fishing Centre LINK
I looed around when i heard a very powerful engine approaching, and what a sight, just imagine this as your fishing vehicle, aint it grand.

Me being me i decided to go and have a look, with the owners permission of course, real leather chars for the driver and passenger, they were extremely plush. A full leather suit inside the vehicle, all mod cons and even a satalite TV.

We called it a day at about 3.30pm.

      Day five

Thornto Abbey, a cracking venue. We got the " point pegs " because the place was void of any more anglers. Back to work after the bank holiday week end. I fished the groundbait feeder with red and white maggots, My first cast resulted in a cracking roach. More and more came to my bait. In all i must have had the 50 mark, i did count 6 roach in an half hour at one time. The rain started very lightly but turned rather nasty. We got packed up and loaded just in time, yet again the heavens opened up.

Another great week spent fishing with Les on our club waters, and another week making new chums. Thanks again Les for your hospitality.

                Here's another earlier trip

                Day one Friday. Thornton Abbey.

Les and myself fished the " point pegs " today. We both fished the magot feeder, and i alternated between groundbait feeder.
Rudd and skimmers were the call of the day. All fell to red and white maggot. In all i had about 20 odd fish, average size about ¾lb. The fish are in pristine condition. Thornton Abbey is a new water to our club, and a very welcomed place. Excelent surrounding with easy to reach pegs. We called a halt to procedings early as Les had been up from 3am for airport duties.

                Day two, Saturday

Back to Thornton Abbey today, this time we went on the first pegs on the fishery. The water was a bit shallow with a lot of weeds, i moved to a deeper peg, no weed in sight,
Fished the maggot feeder again. Rudd and roach yet again, The weather was very hot, and the fishing slow, but not to worry another good day fith me landing some decent fish

Day three Sunday Mill View Fishery
                Mill View Fishery.
An intimate fishery with a good stock of fish, roach, skimmers F1s and the i do kow for a fact ONE CHUB, cos i caught it before, LoL.
Les opted for the floating bread today, i fished the waggler and feeder. As usuak the roach and skimmer abounded. Fish a chuck. Les got the better fish of the day, a fine common of 10pounds in the net. Picture to fallow.

                Day three, Monday Trent Haven
Another new fishery for our club, great place with easy access to pegs and pur[pose made wheelchair friendly pegs.
I fished the maggot feeder and wagger. Bob joined us today. The weather was terrible high winds which made the waggler fishing neigh on imposible. It must have been because Bob packed up at around 1PM and thats not him,!
Les and myself struggled on dispite the wind changing direction which seemed like every chuffing minute, one thi g i will say is this, whever said fish wirth the wind in your face is the way, forget it, it does not work. We did get fish, some cracking roach in pristine condition, but the high winds got the better and we called a halt to procedings.

                Day four,Tuesday
Trent haven, stayed away from Thornton Abbey due to an IFCF mag piece being done about the place with our club. High winds again today. And at times heavy showers. Another decent day on the maggot feeder, with the roach being the main species landed.
We took time off to do a bit of a work party, we helped clear a tree of over hanging branches from the disabled platform. Stu, our clubs web site man is wheelchair bound and he was there with his carer cutting back the branches, Les and i gave a hand to ease the work for the carer.
Again the waggler was neigh on impossible due to the winds, but not to worry, another day on a cracking venue.

Day five, back to Trent Haven.
Maggot feeder fishing and waggler fishing yet again, The weather was roasting, red hot with temps to 25c,
Brollies were put up to protect us from the sun, we complain when the sun does not show and then complain when it does, LoL. The fishing was slow to desperate today, the fish were topping but they were not feedeing, i fished the waggler up in the water, but only had a few fish, same on the maggot feeder, not a lot of fish, that was after therr days fising the same location on the water, plenty of feed in, maybe to much, who knows, <img src='http://fishingposts.com/bboard/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hand.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':hand:' /> ,

Last day, back to Mill View Fishery.
Yet another slowish day. I fished the margins on the waggler, fishing red maggot and white maggot. I landed a load of small stuff, roach, skimmers nothing flash, got sick of them so put the feeder out to the island, nothing, not a bite, so i alternated between the feeder and the waggler. Les fished the floating breat tactis for the carp, he did land two today. We packed up at about 3pm.

Another great week on our club waters with some great new venues added for our pleasure. I met some new chums, namely Stu our web site geezer.
Pictures to fallow when i've resized them.
                Thanks for reading :fishing2:
