Well lads had first visit today and i hammered them. Must have had a dozen. Kept six and then crushed barb and released the rest.
    Here was my first.

    Thenone of the better ones.
Wondered why this fella did,nt fight hard but was handicapped by his tail.

Here my bag filling up--good day but hard work on my arm after 5 hrs called it a day.

    Tight lines Mick.
ps look what i found in the shed putting some of my gear away.

      Well done Mick.

Well done Mick; What was the fly you caught them on? I've just been to Lidl last week and kitted myself out with absolute loads of freshwater stuff. I've never tried the freshwater fishing before but I am determined to do so this year I also inherrited some gear from a family member.May need you to give me a few lessons one weekend! Well done m8.

I used a black fritz and a Dawsons olive. They are bascially black or green lures. Insead of spinning you chuck them out on a wieghted line.
This is my fourth season and have got better as time has gone on.
Got some good advice off Tight Lines the other night on Sky Sports.
        Mick.

whats with tail rot. Is this where they have been having a go at each other when in confined places-prior to release into reservoir.

if i remeber rightly from breeding tropicals fish.....fin rot is a disease that fish can carry and pass onto others it dont just affect there tail fins it will also affect the pectorals and dorsal fins
but it could also be nipped tail wich is a result of overcrowding and dominance

Good of you to share your info on the flies you used Mick. Black Fritz and Dawsons have been fishing well here lately. Had 12 and lost another five last Tuesday at the Derwent. The flies I used then were...Orange Fritz and Cats Whisker fished on a floating line with a sinking tip. Also found good sport with a Bibio fished on a floating line with a 10' leader with the sinking tip removed.
Hope this is of some help to anyone planning on fishing this reservoir. I didn't land anything over 2lbs, and strangely enough I never got a take on the Dawson's Olive. However as everyone knows ; no two days are the same.
Nice photos by the way. Gonna take my camera on my next trip, although I'm bound to have a poor day if I do that !

                  Hello Mick.
Some crackin photo's and looks like you had a good day, it's nice to see Derwent picking up I was there last week and only managed two. The trout with the poor tales, it's down to overcrowding in the stew ponds and wears the tails away, I think it's referred to as Fin rip. Before farmed fish are allowed to be moved they are checked by the EA to make sure that they are not carrying any diseases that can be introduced to the indigenous fish population.
