  • Derwent 27th March

Me and Geordie started fishing Cronkley, not a touch so we decided to fish above the Sailing Club, after a couple of hours we managed 1 a piece and I lost a half decent one on a Black Fritz we were having the odd bite but they dried up, so off to Henry's Plantation same again there the odd bite but no fish. Decided to spend the last couple of hours fishing the Meadow,we were getting some great pulls but couldn't get the fish to stick and decided to call it a day. That's the second 23 pound (£) trout I've caught this year,
We're off to Langley Dam next Sunday to see if we can get our average up.

Still, you didn't blank Davey , i thought with it being sunny today and temperatures up, the fish would be rising more than yesterday

When the sun is out and temperatures up the flies hatch, i think the trout rise to take them off the surface, pretty new to this as well so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong....

It's a bit early for trout rising much, needs to warm up a bit more , they will still feed though , deeper in the water hence the takes on black fritz. When the weather is warm the flies start to hatch but the trout are reluctant to rise much in bright sunshine , but all it needs is a little cloud to cover the sun for a few minutes and they are rising all over the place.
You have more chance of catching them in freezing conditions than on a red hot July or August day though , they don't like warm water no matter how many flies are hatching (still water trout I'm on about).
April and May are the best months along with September and October
