New to fly fishing

hi all im wanting to learn the art of fly fishing never done it but want to give it a go.we have a transit camper and wanting weekend away with a bit of fishing thrown in any good spots in North East or bit further afield

you cant just go anyware to fly fish m8 you will also need a rod licence for a start, you can be done for poaching and fishing without a licence and trespass it goes on and on.
most rivers and lakes are private some rivers have a free stretch of water like durham,
if you want to learn how to fly fish try sharply water the lads up there will help you out.
try before you buy fly fishing can be very expensive

Canny shot used to be the Till up at Wooler. Just outside the town (B6525 north bound) there's a road bridge which was the start of the stretch, you used to be able to park here and fire a stove up, easy fishing so long as there's a bit water in. you don't need a rod license as it's part of the tweed system (check this though just in case the laws changed) but you do need a permit which you used to be able to get at the local PO. There's a great pool about a mile down from the little bridge where the tributary Wooler Water comes in, I once had a 2lb brownie out of there. Good luck mate

Why not try Chatton Trout Fishery. It is fed from Scottish waters so you don't need a rod licence. You can hire your equipment there

so you can try before you buy. There is also plenty of camp sites with some at Belford and Wooler.

I was coaching some Cubs and Scouts there last week. Only had an hour and a half and for most it was their first try - fish caught and lots of happy faces. The fishery is run by a friendly helpful family and you will get any help you need.
