  • Fishing Trip to Scotland.

Well what can i say ,we made it up to loch awe in Scotland for a bit of camping and pike fishing ,we arrived at 12.30pm to a beautiful sunny day with no wind, pulled into the post office and got our permits ,these are £6.00 for one day or £12.00 for three days , as we were stopping over night we got the £12.00 ticket and we were off to the lake ,it is huge and very daunting for a first timer on the lake .Lucky for us we drove down a single track road for about 7 miles yes 7 miles checking out where we thought the best place would be for us , we ended up next to the old deserted school ,where we turned the car around to find another car that waved us down , in the other car was one of the wardens he asked us if we were looking for a fishing spot, i showed him my permit and he told us of a spot next to the old 13 century castle , the old ancestral home of the Campbell , he also said if we don't fancy fishing there we could use his boat to get to the island where the castle is situated, now that is what i call helping someone to get to a good fishing spot ,we thanked the man but said that the first choice would be fine and we would not need to borrow his boat, and off we went.We got sorted out and started to fish about 1.30pm, there was no wind sun was out and it was warm , just what the doctor ordered
Nothing much happened for a few hours , then my float disappeared ,and then popped back up, i left it for a couple of minuets and then pulled it in to see if it had taken the bait off ,it hadn't and so it went back out as close as i could put it to where it was, sure enough the float went again but popped straight back up, then it all went quiet for another couple of hours ,when micks bite alarm sounded, just very slow at first, then stopped then it went again ,he struck into it and you just new it was a nice fish ,it started to take line from the reel, he fought this fish for about 6 to 7 minutes, it ran time after time each run was now getting shorter as the fish tired, and then he had it , slowly he brought the fish in, i was waiting at the shore to do the unhooking ,i decided to hand ball it out as it was a slowly sloping bank and i felt this would be the best method rather than the net.
The fish was in fine condition ,and the unhooking process went to plan, pictures taken, then the fish was released and swam off to terrorise more roach, nothing much happened after that until the next afternoon when micks alarm went again , he hit into the fish ,this time the fish put a bend in the rod but it was just not strong enough to pull line off the reel, he got it about half way in and the fish came off , he was gutted and so was i ,we never got to see that one . Well that's basically it concerning the fish ,i blanked mick got one. The scenery was unbelievable and if asked would i drive almost 600 miles round trip for the same result ,dam right i would , i will definitely go back up , maybe the next bank holiday, who knows , hope i can put the pictures up ,here goes.
The sea loch was a disaster two casts lost all the gear both times ,snag after snag after snag, tide was out which didn't help much so we decided after about 3 hours to call it a day and headed off home , a fantastic trip and i am looking forward to the next one, the drive back was some of the best mountain scenery i have ever seen -----if someone can put this in the freshwater section i think it might be better suited--thanks Karl

Cheer's Karl, very descriptive report mate. Nice fish for Mick and pleased you had a great weekend. Big well done to the warden for offering the boat too, sounds like a very nice man.
