  • first outin', delayed report

managed to get up to langley on thursday, first trip out with the fly gear since middle of october. perfect conditions when we set off but was blowing a hooligan (as it so often does up there) when we arrived. nothing was going to deter us mind and after a bit craic with fred we headed over to our fav spot (fishing the 'garden' between the reed beds). we dropped anchor about 30 yards out and started to cast as close to the bank as we could. i took a nice one of about 3lb on my third or fourth cast (black pennel on the point) before we had to haul (the totally ineffective) anchor and start our 'drift' (lol) again. repeated this a few times with 1 or 2 pulls but no more hook ups before trying to find some shelter from the wind. wind was getting worse and we ended up back at the boat jetty to rob a second anchor from a boat that a couple of old boys had abandoned. they really struggled to control thier vessel in the conditions and beached themselves a couple of times, they had a good bit bother trying to get her afloat again but eventually managed. (not funny really but i couldn't help but titter like a kid) we did assit them in mooring up and giv them a hand get tha gear out before anyone givs me a hard time. so, armed with 2 anchors we tried again. i got another around the 3lb mark to a bibio before we too had to abandon the boat had no bother holding bottom but we were getting swamped by the waves. fished the last hour from the bank but nowt doin. enjoyed it apart from the wind (brother in law blanked which pleases me cos he's a cocky git at best) and cannit wait for tuesday and my first assault on the derwent...........................

Well done Dicky. I,m out at the Derwent tomorrow (mon). Just sorted all of my stuff.

Not going to miss my old Greys stuff. Sold rod and reel because i much prefer my lighter vipor with the small shakespear reel.

If the Vipor comes a cropper i,ll be getting a sonic sk3.

      Mick.
