West House Trout Lakes | Welcome to West House Trout Lake
FISHING REPORT 03/8/09
The mixed weather this week has cooled the lakes and resulted in some good fishing conditions. Anglers have been taking plenty of fish on a variety of methods with lures, buzzers and dries all taking fish on different days. Buzzers, bloodworm and PTN are often out fishing larger patterns. Plenty of fish were caught on dries, shuttle cocks, daddies and damsels. Certain areas are holding large numbers of fish and it is worth investigating all the lakes to find these hotspots.
Three doubles have been landed this week. Graham Lees of Ingleby Barwick caugh a nice fish of 12lb on a Damsel Nymph using a 5lb leader on a floating line. The fish took 15 minutes to land and was one of a number of fish Graham and his fishing partner caught. Peter McBride landed a Rainbow of 16lb from West Lake one of 6 fish he caught on small Black Buzzers. William Morris of Sunderland landed a 13lb fish on his first visit to the lakes and declared it was the largest fish he had ever caught. Other notable catches this week include West House regular Chris Micallef who caught over 30 fish in an evening session and Jonathon Healey of Stockton who caught 15 fish and his partner adding another 12 to their tally.
Notable catches this week include: Chris Harris of Stockton with a 6lb Rainbow trout and a 4 1/2 lb Brown trout in the same session, Barry Mitchell with a 12lb Rainbow on a dry fly one of 6 fish he caught. Peter Hazlewood of Newcastle caught 12 fish in a 4 hour session on a Cats Whisker. Mike Flenley of Hartlepool landed a 6lb 9oz Rainbow and his 9 year old son David a 4lb Brown. Ben Race of Great Ayton landed a stunning 14lb Rainbow caught on a Black Cormorant, this was a fish he had been targeting for over an hour during his fishing session. Peter Williams of Durham caught 16 fish on a variety of Dry flies
The best flies this week were Diawl Bach’s, Damsels, Crunchers, Invicta, Klinkhammers, Black Hoppers, Hares Ears and mini lures.
The lakes are now open until 9.00 pm on an evening and and evening ticket (4pm onwards) is available for £8.
