West House Trout Lakes | Welcome to West House Trout Lake
FISHING REPORT 21/7/09
Dramatic weather this week with all the rain resulting in colouring of the larger Mill lake. However the good news is that the water temperature has reduced considerably and with the water clearing the fishing has been very good. A double stocking of fish went in on Friday and the lakes are lifting with fish. Different methods have been taking fish with Dries working very well at times of the day, Buzzers have been effective and in the more coloured lakes Lures have been taking a number of fish. Mornings are producing fish to both dry fly and nymph tactics. If fishing dries it is best to catch to rising fish and a mobile approach is necessary. However,*nymphs and damsels are producing fish with the corner of Horseshoe a particular hot spot. Fishing at dusk with dries has also been succesfull, with shipmans, bobs bits and emergers all catching.
Notable catches this week include: Chris Harris of Stockton with a 6lb Rainbow trout and a 4 1/2 lb Brown trout in the same session, Barry Mitchell with a 12lb Rainbow on a dry fly one of 6 fish he caught. Peter Hazlewood of Newcastle caught 12 fish in a 4 hour session on a Cats Whisker. Mike Flenley of Hartlepool landed a 6lb 9oz Rainbow and his 9 year old son David a 4lb Brown. Ben Race of Great Ayton landed a stunning 14lb Rainbow caught on a Black Cormorant, this was a fish he had been targeting for over an hour during his fishing session. Peter Williams of Durham caught 16 fish on a variety of Dry flies
The best flies this week were Diawl Bach’s, Damsels, Crunchers, Invicta, Klinkhammers, Black Hoppers, Hares Ears and mini lures.
The lakes are now open until 9.00 pm on an evening and and evening ticket (4pm onwards) is available for £8.
