  • Waskerley Reservoir Stocking - Thurs 12th

Saw over 400 good brownies stocked into the lake this morning.

Some around the one pound mark and some two pound with a few 'clonkers' up to six pounds.

Stocking will take place at three weekly intervals throughout the season and there's also rainbows, blues and natural wild browns in there.

Day ticket prices for fly or worm anglers have been pegged to £10 for a two fish limit but fly anglers may catch and release without limit until two fish are killed. Maximum hook size =10 (barbless).

It's a great little lake and one of the bonniest in the area.

    Well worth a visit.

Thanks for the information-love the taste of brown trout. Will be giving it a go. Is there an honesty box. Never fished it before even though its close to my home.

      Wotfettle Mick,

There's a Fishing Lodge with a 'chute' leading into an underground safe where you deposit your tenner and day ticket counterfoil. You also fill in the sheet on the desk.

      The lodge is well signposted.

As they strictly only allow five day tickets per day, if you are going on a busy weekend, it may be wise to book in advance by phoning The Treasurer (Graham Robinson) on 07759431731

      Cheers.

          Cheers Mick,

Let's know if you see owt rising. They were put-in beside the picnic tables but after three days they will be starting to 'spread'.

When fish are first stocked into a big lake they tend to hug the margins 'cos being born and raised in stew ponds, they have never experienced 'deep water' and I reckon it 'scares' them. Takes a while for them to venture deeper.

          Season starts next Sun.

Popped up this aftey with the kids but the hut was locked and no one fishing.
Went over to Derwent again with the kids and one of the rangers said he doesnt think its open yet.
              I,ll give Graham a ring.
              Cheers Mick.

                Wotcheor Mick,

As I said, 'cos it's predominantly a 'Brown Trout' fishery it must stay closed untill the start of 'The Brownie Season' which is next Sun.- 22nd

Fantastic place to fish. Ive only managed to fish it once a good few years back. I had around 10 browns to Black an Peacock and Bibio patterns. Ill have to get back up this season.

You're right Pete, small black patterns really do the biz up there, it's virtually all I use. Unless I take my Grandson up, then it's a legered worm (his fly casting's not quite up to scratch just yet)

Don't forget, as a member, family members under ten can fish on your ticket as long as you share the bag limit.
