After getting lost on our first visit to West House the two old farts and me who made three arrived at a very very cold fishery round about 8.45ish.
As this was our first visit we found the lay out of the water rather strange, ie not the normal lake style fishery that you find at most places, still they say a change is as good as a rest.
Not many fish showed on the top so we set up with various patterns and Sheppie was the first to score using a Pink Bloodworm pattern, another fish followed within ten minutes of us starting. After an hour or so Ronnie C/R a lovely finnned rainbow of about 2lb using a small black nymph pattern and I followed with a fine conditioned fish of similar weight using a PTN, I think Ronnie caught one more fish and that was that
The wind started to get up and being really cold I think this put the fish down, the three of us never touched another fish and a couple of other anglers were also struggling to get a bend in the rod.
Talking to a regular he said this is a fine fishery and when things were right fish move all over the place and the takes are fantastic, he also thought the day was hard and we were unlucky to have these conditions on our first visit.
Not to worry, getting out and about is the main thing and you have to accept that fishing is a very unpredictable sport.
Maybe next time eh!
