  • Kielder waters

    Hi,
All just thought i'd ask about advice on fishing kielder,
Has any1 got any advice on best tactics/methods(bait,flys etc) for fishing kielder, is there any hot spots?

Me and my m8 fished it yesterday from early morning till 5.30pm me m8 lost a decent rainbow and then caught 2 small rainbows,i blanked.
Its a huge place, very peaceful, just wondered what the best methods are to try or is it a case of moving around and locating the fish?

    Advice/help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kielder

    Hello.

I fish Kielder for most of the Lexus and National Team Qualifiers and have a fair knowledge of the water. There are always the odd hotspots on the place but the fish will always wander the banks. They always sit VERY close into the shore.

We always drift parallel to the bank and literally cast the booby on the point actually onto the bank before pulling it off. The fish literally sit that close.

It's a bloody big puddle to find fish in... get an electronic fish finder!

          Fish Finder?!?!!?

Fish finders are a bit silly!

If you need and use a fish finder to locate fish you need to stick to the sea fishing! lol. Half the fun of the fishing is finding the fish. If you just wana catch them, go to somewhere easy like sharpley or any other of these small waters!

            Hiya mate,

I fish Kielder regularly and always head for the wind lanes if fishing from the bank or boat and as one of the previous replies said, the fish are normally very close in. I normally do well with a lure on the piont and something like a bibio on the middle dropper with a bushier fly on the top dropper. If there are no lanes I usually stick around the bottom end down from tower Knowe and always do ok, good luck,
            Graham.

              kielder

i fish kielder quite a bit, good little hot spot that not many people know about is a place called bull crag peninsula, drive passed the visitor centre and its signposted a couple of miles passed tower knowe.

once you have turned in go right down the bottom of the rocky road until you can go no further and there is a small car park, head down towards the resevoir and then go along to your right on foot for about 1/2 a mile along the footpath you will come to a point, behind you there is a lovely bay full of brownies and infront of you the water goes deep quickly, u can see tower knowe across the other side of the resevoir.

try fishing across the wind out from the point floating line and as long leader as you can manage, really slow retrieve and the magic flies.............

try using and orange fritz/blob on the point, kate mclaren middle dropper and bibio on the top dropper, stick with it and im sure u will have success, i caught 6 in 15 minutes biggest 4lb on tuesday didnt change my tactics all day was getting them on all 3 of the flies knocks and plucks all day - ended up with my limit - great place - no people bothering u plenty of fish!

hope this helps and good luck!
