  • Silver fish.

Hello lads just in from the Derwent resevoir. Steady away day. took two home and lost about four.
One fish i caught completley through me. I saw what i thought was a small trout rising near the shore to my left so i cast in the direction. Caught what i can only describe as a silver bass like fish but not as bright in colour. It was about 10-12 inches long and took a small wet fly/lure hook.
Tried to take photo but just got new phone and could,nt work it.
At first thought it was a tiger trout. But it was defo not a member of the trout family. Also not a grayling just googled them and top fin and colour all wrong.
It looked like a Bass. Anyway i put it back and it swam off.
Not really into course fishing but suspect it was this type.
The ranger up there looked puzzled when i told him.
Another guy who i was talking to said people have been putting freshwater course fish in the resevoir so it may be one of these. I,ll keep googling.

    Mick.

Googled and looked i can only think it was a Chub. I caught it next to overhanging trees and the resevoir has been choca with water so it may have came in with a flood.

Massive mouth and big thick rubber lips a chub has Mick , another fish that looks very similar is the dace , but they only grow to about a pound in weight , neither have any spines anywhere and both have yellow eyes.
Both will quite happily take a fly too. There shouldn't really be any chub in there , but there weren't any in the tyne until well meaning anglers put them there a good few years back and now they are well established.
Not much else it could have been , and at 10-12 inches my money would be on a chub!
