Tapered leaders - fly fishing

fished with tapered leaders loads over the years and they do a great deal for fly presentation in terms of the turnover - especially with dries.

one of the problems i've found with the knotless ones that be bought commercially however is they tend to become brittle fairly quickly, ultimately impacting their effectiveness.

Anyone on here construct their own that can give me any tips as i've only ever bought them in the past?
