  • Waders.

    Guys bit of advice please.

I have been wanting a pair of waders for some time now-but which.
I like the thigh waders and have been looking for some with studded soles. This would also be more comfortable if i ledger fish. However i think i will regret getting them if i want to stand in some deeper water when fly fishing.

The chest waders.I,ve looked at them in the shops and neoprene seems good value. But in the summer would they be uncomfortable.(cost about £40 on e-bay with delivery.

Finally i,v seen some breathable chest waders for £89 on e-bay with anti-slip boots and staff. (whincwood). They are on a free delivery.Missus said she would buy them for xmas.

Mick-oh and i may use them on the beach if i spin for bass.

Breathable Chesties for the summer mick, you might get some good deals now the season is closing down. There's loads of advice on the fly forums. I got a great pair of Scierra's from frazers a few years ago for £50 as they were an old line and they are still going strong (spent a fortune on the boots though ). If your going to fish rivers I would go for felt soled boots - if you are yomping any distance over mud or grass to get to your spot maybe think about some studs as well. I wouldn't pay a fortune if you are hiking in them as spiky plants, barbed wire etc can easily puncture them.

Yep, definitely breathable chesties, I'd say. I got a pair of thigh waders when I started fly fishing on the rivers last season. They're fine if you want a pair of great big wellies, but I always ended up coming home with soggy nads, as unless you're fishing a trickle, you'll always end up wanting to take just that one extra step into the slightly deeper water to get into a better casting position... Luckily, I managed to pick up a pair of Hardy breathable chesties for sixty quid and I've stayed dry ever since!

And like Charlie said too, your best bet will probably be felt soles, with a few studs in the heels to stop you slipping over on your way down to the river bank!
