Dropped Sheila off at Teeside Airport, at 0545, headed for Witton, had half an hours kip n the Landy, Beautiful frosty morning, (pics hopefully to follow) Nothing showed till about 9am, then a few fish began moving around.
Saw two fish taken on the South West lake. Tried Olives, and diawl Bachs, Nymphs, no takes.
Changed to an Intermediate line, with an "Alan Shearer" on the point, BANG!, real solid take and off she went like a polaris, good ten to fifteen feet of backing off, and the fish went deep and away. Managed to turn it, spurned the kind offer of another angler to net it, as I wanted to do it myself. Good ten mins fight, and I eventually netted it. Topped my personal best after 20 odd years, wighed just under eight and three quarter pounds.
A few casts later, and Alan Shearer did it again, estimated about two pounds, returned.
Changed to one of JohnCs nymphs, had a few knocks, but no takes.
Moved around a bit, had one or two bumps around lunchtime.
Tried a Haswells Olive on the middle lake, and hooked a fish, but lost it at the net, around two ana half pounds.
Shearer back on and another solid take, but lost the fish, and the lure.
Returned two more by 1400.
JohnCs pink arsed fluffy took of three pounds mid afternoon, by then plenty fish taking sub surface, but few takes.
put the pink ass back on, and cast out, a guy asked me the time, and as I said three mins after five, BANG, fish on. Real scrappy powerful fish, full tail, and did it use it. finally netted it at 5 23 pm. 20 mins to land.
Just under 5 pound of superb fish.
The guy that offered to net the big one, was fishing with his son, around ten yr old, a real pleasure to watch, great little caster, Im sure he has a great future. As I left I gave him a priest, his dad was over the moon, and thanked me with a sporting ticket to use on the water when I want to. Great gesture.
