  • Pike Fishing - Can anyone help?

Really fancy catchin me first pike at the weekend but don't know where to go?!

Am not bothered about it being massive or out i just wanna break my duck. Spent a morning up at grasmere in the lakes last month and got nowt so am desperate to catch me first. Someone metioned Bolam for small jack pike and someone mentioned qe2 for bigger ones. Are there anyother half decent pike waters within a reasonable distance of newcastle?

Any suggestions or reccommendations would be appreciated.

    cheers lads

Fish the Tees at stockton. get one every time on live bait.

Kids are getting them on spinner there as well.

Anywhere you can get to the river in the town centre will do, but if you can find it the old boathouse steps are good. (11 last time I was there) Nothing big up to 7 lb ish.

    Cheers

We're not in the best area for pike Andy ,unless it's changed a lot since I fished there a lot of years ago Bolam lake is hopeless , the Qe turns a few pike out but it's very hit and miss , after that I think you will need to travel!
Apart from travelling south , (never went that direction for pike) your next venues will be Talkin tarn at brampton to the west , or the lochs round Hawick to the north , there's another one off the A1 near Woller but I can't remember it's name
I bypass all of these and head for south west scotland , Loch ken almost guarantees pike , specially at this time of year , or Castle loch at Lochmaben or any of the smaller lochs round about that area.

I can only echo what dave has said, Whenever i ask anyone for local pike marks they always mention the tees as a hotspot.

              Tooley,
Would be nice to think that your mate caught and released a 22lbr on the tees last sunday

                Ray ,
Ever tried Loch Foot, just past dumfries. When we first started fishing it we fished by the pumping tower and got loads of runs on coloured sardines...nothing big but entertaining..8 or 10 fish to seven pounds not unusual.

Personally if I was prepared to travel that far I would fish the ouse at york. An awesome pike venue. Any bay or back water will do. A hot spot is where the fosse joins the ouse in the town centre. Fish the actual junction as its a nice back water.

Or further down stream the lock where the river becomes tidal is a good bet. Just below the weir is a boat pontoon ( the river board guys may charge you a few quid if they can be bothered but usually dont) its a great pike venue and I have had several doubles from there and three over 20. The nice thing is it goes up and down with the tide ..saves backing your gear up the bank.

                Cheers
                Dave

Fished Loch foot many a time Dave , fished there for years and caught lots of pike up to about 9lb , my mate works with someone who lives there and pike fishes , he catches 20's regular , but from a boat .
The bigger fish seem to live off the opposite bank to the pumphouse further west than you can fish in the field out from the wood .
I must have fished dozens of the lochs in that area over the years
