i took it up three months ago after being a sea angler for nearly 30 years and absolutly love it, it does take some getting into and youll find you have a few blank sessions at least i did. But when you get that first run youll be hooked for life.
If you are just starting i would start on the small stillwaters before you go onto the larger lakes or rivers, i still have taken the plunge and made that step up yet.

Its probably easier if you have never shore fished before as you tend to try and cast it like a sea rod first time out ,you dont even have to be good to catch fish although practice and experience will give you better rewards, best advice is to get some lessons on casting and then fish with someone that can keep you right for a few trips out.
Like your species hunt fly fishing is trial and error what works for you might not work for others and vice versa, however its more relaxing than sea fishing, give it a go
        Cheers Alan...

Have a bash at it mate, take Alans advice and try to get some tuition when you first start casting a line, it will pay off in the long run.

Once you get the hang of it and a couple of runs after hooking your first trout you will understand a new aspect of angling.

I am a sea angler as well, but I really look forward to visiting different fisheries and trying my arm at catching Rainbows, Browns, Blues etc.

Anyway, tight lines mate if you take up the sport.

Alan I'd have to disagree on one thing - the more relaxing than sea fishing bit. It's an active type of pain in the arse type of fishing IMO but with a chance of fish, not too much stink and lush expensive clothes to buy.

Sea angling is the ultimate in relaxation, even if it's freezing (Wrap up warm) and your perched on a slippery outcrop or getting chased up and down the beach by daft seas (Don't leap about man and move your box once in a while)) you can at least chill for 15 mins at a time staring at your glowbug, and watching the tip of your rod as well.

RELAXING - where I fish a lot you can't even have a butty in peace as ravenous geese come honking in your face threating to break your arms and call in the swans. Oh and while I'm at it - Wind, wind knots, trees, banks, boulders, weed, plants, insects, humans, dogs, wind knots, flies tying themselves round the tip of your rod, hordes of fish rising round you just laughing their raggedy arse fins off, the price, the tweed, the dry fly sinking everytime you give it a tweak, sitting on a boat seat for more than 10 mins and getting shouted at through a loud hailer everytime you stand up to get you mate to massage it up a bit. Trout (uurgh) and that.

              Still love it
