  • line problem

Hi lads just started out on the fly and bought second hand reel with spare spools with line attached ,one of these lines ,never used hardy floating has the memory of an elephant and lies on the water in a squigle fasion is there any way i can erase its memory of the spool or will i have to live with it

Lines that have been spooled and not used for a while suffer from memory, to get over this is to simply streach it.

Simon try soaking your line in warm water for a while, get hold of a bicycle wheel and store your line on one of these until your next fishing trip. You can apply tension on your line as you feed it onto the wheel so this should get rid of some of the memory.
Hope this little bit of info may help.

Hi Simon, let it all off the spool, and simpy get someone to help you give it a good stretch. You dont say If your reel has a large arbour (centre) ie. is the centre (axle) small or deep. go for a mid to large arbour reel, less coils = less twist.
