Simon don,t get ett up about it. Just get there and get stuck in. I,ve been three times now. Twice on the resevoir and today on the river.

You will get the idea its like riding a bike. You should see me now. Its just practice.

If you go to Derewent resevoir you can take a spinning rod and fixed spool reel and fish just like sea fishing only lighter gear. 10 lb line,8lb trace. small hook like a flattie hook half ounce wieght (no tides to worry about)i some power bait or worm. You sit on the side and you could be fishing at sea. Ten yards out and bang the Rainbows are there trust me.

Because you can only fish with one rod. Reel the spinning rod in. Get the fly rod out put the reel on thread the line whop a fly on and get tons of practice hoying it in.
Thats what i did.People will help you and you can watch others whilst you fish with the spinning rod.

        Mick.

Mr. Ayre I think it's a great idea to get a lesson (some lessons), I was half shown by someone once, copied what they were doing, and as I'm quite brilliant, was casting just like them within microseconds. My casting is pretty much the same still. I have read books on casting and watched videos and what I do bears absolutely no resemblance to how you should do things, I have reached a very short maximium range, and have no idea how to use any other casting methods apart from the awa the shoulder, shut your eyes and hoyk (one two three) hoyk (one two three) method.

I will be getting lessons myself soon I hope.

or just fish the small rivers like me, serious distance casting, can hit the far bank every time, and the bank behind me like as not.

mind you the rivers only 10yards wide at its widest
