  • Well i,ve bought the gear.

Went up Derwent Resevoir yesterday and bought a fly fishing starter kit from the shop for £99. Paid for my fresh water licence and also got a free days fishing to use.(staff were very helpful and gave me loads of advice, even put line on reel, don,t get that on e-bay, cheers guys)
Checked out the resevoir. The fishing is more or less the same as sea fishing. Couple of lads fishing on the bottom with small wieghts as to choppy for fly.Saw one lovely trout brought in.
You can fish on the bottom. Float (bit like when i macky fish), spin.or use fly.
Practised with the fly on the grass at Allansford the other day,had a good idea anyway and seems o.k.
Only 3-4 miles from my home so i,m looking forward to having a day up there mid week when its quiet.
£18 squids for the day 8am x 8 pm. I can also take my 8 rear old lad for free. (joint bag of 8 fish).
All in all a good deal i think.
I,ll keep you updated how i got on.
PS Seen some of the Rainbow trout brought in for re-stocking. Fish looked cracking.(also seen some getting wieghed in by angler 3 lb and 5 lb).
Feel like i,ll be fishing in a small bath with loads of fish compared to the sea.(which is a bigger bath with hardly any fish in).
Funny thing is a lad was in from Blackhall and he had to travel to fish at my local venue rather than visa versa.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

Well done Mick on getting set up for a bit of fluff chucking.

Make sure you wear a good set of Poloroids ( eye protection ).

Best of luck on your next trip and tight lines.

Well done for getting into the fly scene Mick.

If you think the Derwent is like a bath compared to the North Sea, don't fish any of our 1 - 3 acre fisheries, it'll be positively claustrophobic!!!!

      cheers
