Went to South Linden Fishery on Friday after going up to Hazon Burn and finding that there were no trout in the pond.
Any way South Linden, it's near Longhorsley and is made up of two nicely landscaped ponds. One for worm and the other for fly.
It cost us £12 for 4 hours and you could keep 2. Fish over 4lb were to go back. headed to the north end of the pond near the and fished mainly black patterns to start with on a sinking line with a moderate figure of 8 retrieve. Got nowt so changed to an orange buzzer and using the same technique struck into a rainbow about 2lb, which put up a nice scrap for a minute or two before spitting the fly and taking off. continued with the same fly for another few mintues and suddenly the line went tight, nothing seemed to move for several seconds before a nice fish around the 5lb mark rolled up on it's side, made one run for the centre of the pond and then the line went slack and another fish lost.
nothing more on this fly for another ten minutes so changed to an orange fritz and bang first cast struck into a fish around the 2lb mark. off it went this way and that, I gained some line, I lost some line, then it bagen to tire, I grabbed the net and as I drew it in towards the net, off she went again. This went on for a minute or two before I finally landed it. My first of the season and perfect for the grill!
Continued fishing for another hour with nothing more taking, but saw plenty of fish rising. My mate blanked but we'll definitely be back. The trout seem to be good little scrappers and according to a guy there it's stocked continuously.
