  • bolam and pike

i am thinking of giving bolam a shot for a bit of pike fishing, i have had some info on how to set up for float fishing with a dead bait and i have been told where and what conditions to fish in but one question i have not asked is how to hold and handle a angry pike should i be so lucky to catch one and has anyone been up to bolam lately and if they have how was it. any information would be greatfully received.

I used to fish there 35 years ago for pike and had a few. We always used a wire snap tackle fished below a pike bung with a salted herring or live perch for bait. I remember chucking the floats in one day and then got the pillow cases out to fill with duck eggs. When we got back to the rods they were both in the water and both had pike on the other end. My mate got his (about 7lb) but lost mine in the reeds.

We used to use the danger signs as stepping stones to get on the island (It was allowed in the days before the nanny state - and I'm still alive!)

Beware! There is a "monster ghost" at Bolam lakes. If you dont believe me have a look at this site and click 2004 investigations on the left then scroll down

        You have been warned!
