  • River Wear - Water levels??

    Hello Gents
does anyone know if the river wear levels have risen much
    over the past few days?

Mark - I'm thinking about having a dodge out on Saturday on the Weardale fishers stretch if there is sufficent water!

I tried last Saturday, fished from 3pm until midnight,
I managed some cracking browns 1 around 2.5lb! no sea trout, however I seen a few lying up.

    Cheers

not me in the quarry by the way, maggots! as if, gill nets and dynamaite more my style! been watchinbg a couple of huge brownies cruising by the old pumping station byt the gate recently

      Cheers Mark
I will be up there first light tomorrow (well, as soon as the shop opens!)
I'm hoping that there are a few more about, we did see some nice fish going over Hag Bridge falls a couple a weeks ago, they were all silver fish between 4-6lb!!!

Role on tomorrow, if your about, I will be at hag bridge first working my way down to gauging station!! When I am down th bottom end of the stretch I normally park up next to the quary. I will keep a sly eye open for the big brown-uns next to the pump station.

Does anyone know of a webcam that would indicate the levels of the River Wear in real time? I've found one that is at Durham pointing at the rowing club doors!! useless!

      Cheers

Was still a good flow on yesterday (thursday).
Must have been some decent fish come up river over the last few days while they've had the chance.

        Good luck for tomorra

I had ago up on the weardale flyfisher's water on Saturday Morning,
I landed 1 sea-trout about 4lb and lost another, along with a couple of
          decent browns that were returned.

Mark, I had the fish in the cottage pool, loads of fish running through however the water was dropping back quite quick.

          Cracking day, fish below:

thats a cracking fish for daylight at this time of year... you should of taken it to the cross keys at eastgate to get it wieghed, free beer, food n stuff for the best fish each season! a 3lb'er won it last year

one of those has got to be worth 50 of your stockie fish every time!

what did you take it on??

Mark - the thought never even crossed my mind about weighing it in!
There were some big fish running through on saturday.

Not like the photograph suggests..... I actually caught the fish on size 2 mepps! The water was to heavy in the morning for the fly however in the afternoon the water dropped 1-2ft and it was perfect. My mate lost one on the fly between the cottage and the railway bridge. When the water is up there are some cracking gluides for the fly in that area.

I was suprised how silver my fish was considering the low water this year.
              Stock fish............................ absolutley no comparison!

dependent on the on the weather this week I may give it anougher go over the weekend.

I forgot to mention that I fell in, I discovered not only how good Neoprene waders are at keeping water out but also how good they are at holding wader in! LOL

                If you had'nt guessed it,

The river wear was is flood last night and has been very very slowy dropping off today but still pretty flooded.

I was up at haig bridge yesterday (wed) before alot of the heavy rain came and their was a good number of fish coming up over the weir.

Should be good fishing when the water levels drop off and its fishable again.

Think carefully about going over Stanhope ford tho as it claimed another car at the weekend, helicopters and all were out again. lol.
