The consultation period for the proposal to establish a Recreational Angling Sea Fishery in the Stour & Orwell estuary on the Essex/Suffolk border closes on the 19th January 2005.

With their usual blinkered shortsightedness, it seems that many in the netting sector see these proposals as an threat, rather than an opportunity to manage our coastal resources better in the future, and through self-interest have decided that the proposals must be \'nipped in the bud\', before such revolutionary ideas are spread around the country.
That is why anyone with an interest in the proposal should respond, and encourage their friends, clubs and associations to do likewise.
If the proposals are adopted, the netters are right, the idea will spread (and they along with anglers will ultimately benefit), but if they are defeated then it may be some time before such ideas are raised again anywhere.
So, this is a unique chance to make a difference by spending perhaps just a few minutes to complete and send in a proposal response, but it needs to be done now or the opportunity will be lost.
