  • Gotta stop Fishing so Much

I Guess that you\'ve all heard it on the news, and seen it in the papers, about the report that was launched today.

    I was there!

Lots of links to media stories and a link to download the report at

As Jim Donofrio from the Recreational Fishing Alliance says \'It isn\'t about science, i\'ts not about socio-economics, it\'s not about ethics or logic, it\'s all about politics\'

Nothing is going to happen until the politicians sense that the voters are not going to stand for it any more.

Every letter, every email that they get from a constituent that says \'I am a recreational sea angler and.........\' brings that day closer.

Of course if they don\'t get that many letters or emails, they aren\'t going to bother.

      Ever.

If they do decide to go ahead with this proposed idea then simply look to what happened in Canada. They followed a similar ban to help the stocks of fish and although fully implemented the fish never recovered; mainly due to the foreign fleets ignoring the ban and fishing outside the limit. I\'ve fished the shore (illegally in many areas in Canada) not knowing the rules and regs and very nearly ended up with a very stiff personal fine for my pleasure.

But the report emphasis all the good things that have happened since the St Georges banks were closed.

It also includes many other examples of successful closures across the world.
