  • NOT a slinky catch report

Well, with the big sea pounding the shores on Friday and many views on would it drop off or not when the wind decreased on Saturday, Tony and I decided on the "Private boaters Ace Card" ie we'd leave it until 4.00am Saturday and go and have a look ourselves before taking the decision.

Got there and found , surprisingly, it was less than many seas we'd fished in the past and with the forecast to only improve, we .... "gave it a go..."

Confidence was high, so long as we got out there (and it's even a weekend) we'd bag up ........

hmmmmm ... we forgot the rules, this is fishing not catching so unfortunately el blanko was on board today

We started a mile or so off thinking if this works we can fill the boxes without too much diesel spend .... no that didn't work
We moved to St Marys (the banker?) to catch the late run of spring cod (armed with fresh nipping peeler crab) ... no that didn't work .... (like the first spot the water was a suspension of brown "brown bits") ...
We moved out to 5 mile to get to clear water to another good wreck ..... No, that didnt work ... the water was still just as brown ......
OK here we are 5 miles out the sea not too bad but a bit cold, lets give it a go and do the 8 mile wrecks ....... no, that didnt work either ... still as brown as a brown thing can be......
Right then, lets take away the excuses of water clarity and hit the 13/14 mile wrecks that'll do it .... no, that didn't work either ........ still brown water ...... less brown I give you, but Brown !.
At a loss, we thought well, lets just head kinda back in and do all the wrecks we know so well on the way back ..... hmmmm that didn't work either ......

conclusion ..... there's no fish in the sea !

no no no lets not get that depressed

We today fished, 2 of us, a full tide from top to bottom using pirks, hokkais, daylites, shads, baited flowing taces all with/without squid, crab, mussle ..... and not a bite detected between us

    so ... either ...
    a) theres no fish and the big blow moved them off past 15 mile
    b) they are there but are not on the feed (and are good at dodging pirks)
    c) we lost our mojo

hey ho , until the next time

good luck lads, I'm sure we just hit a black spot that will clear very soon

We had the same result Norman no fish.

Infact the winner of our competition today was the only person to catch a codling out of 15 rods, a massive 2lb.

Hope it improves soon still ain't caught a cod on the boat this year haha
Beat them in their own back yard

        Def a MOJO thing

Seriously though, tough luck lads. Was a lovely day today and I was sure of reading some exciting reports.

Brown water never sounds nice, I know it rained a bit last week but didn't seem all that bad to me.

        Better luck next time

We had to go off 23 mile at Whitby to get into clean water but even then fishing was poor with a few pollack to 6lb, coaly, whiting but guess what zero cod at all on the boat and we tried hard to boat a few.

Hmmm! I've arranged an early start tomorrow, maybe I should put it back to a late kick off? I was expecting to read of big catches today

Norman, you still write a good catch report, even without the catch.

What’s going on, Slinky coming back fishless, has the late season just had another false start?

We’re planning a trip tomorrow to find out, watch this space…

Well glad I decided to stay in the garden now......if slinky is not catching then nobody is catchin!!

I was planning same as Ray, having a good shot at it tomorrow, no early start this time though, nice lazy get up and out for the start of the flood, like you say Norman 2 days can be very different, hard to believe the fish are not there just not feeding, surely they will be hungry tomorrow?!!
