  • Things happen in three's, Lazy Dayz

Awoke bright and early, well early for me, 6-15am, spent an hour getting the boat ready, got down the ramp at Cullercoats just after high tide. Just about ready to launch, then realised i'd forgot my rods, so had to take it all back home to get them.
Now in a hurry to get her off the trailer before it gets too shallow on the 50 meters of flat sand. She came off the trailer ok and was floating in about a foot of water, so quick as I could, parked the trailer, then the car and hurried to the boat before she beached. Why is there so much water on the inside There should be a bung where obviously there's not, so with great haste I scratted round in the boat and found it, back over the side, arm into the water up to my neck and put the bung in, and spent the next few minutes bailing out.
Eventually was under way heading to the can with a stiff westerly blowing with lots of white gee gees showing. Got there and threw the anchor out, but no tide pull so the boat was doing arks in the wind, but after a few minutes got a bite which was a codling about 2lb, then another a little bit bigger, then a scotchie, then another 2lb codling.
Then it went quiet, so decided to move, no chance, the anchor was stuck solid, so trying with the engine, and the wind having none of it, had to cut the rope in case I got it wrapped around the prop, called it a day after only 45mins fishing. No pics as conditions were hopeless.
I think I would have got a few if conditions were better, so till next time, cheers. Just realised I can't even spell Dayz right, should be Daze. lol

You should have tied it off to a buoy Arthur, then you could tie up to the same anchor every time you go out

What's the score with leaving a buoy to tie up to over hard ground? I see the divers leave one attached to a wreck sometimes, is there some sort of rule that says its a no no? If you have to cut your warp at the boat, why not leave a marker on it and re attach next time out?

Sorry Ray, when you said a bouy, I automatically thought of a bouy marking a hazard or direction marker. Like you say, there should be no problem leaving a marker bouy of your own in the manner you describe.
I didn't have a bouy to tie on at the time, but also the strength of the wind was making everything difficult, plus I never fish in the same place more than half an hour as the fishing usually dies off so a quick move often puts you back onto feeding fish.
