The first trip off in ages due to work was a leisurely start time of 11 out of the piers solo.

I headed straight to the Easterly wrecks and was a bit dissapointed to be honest. The wrecks are normally in form at this time of the season but it was patchy at best with only four fish. The wind freshened a lot which made me head in towards the Invergyle and Lafonia. It was still unfishable there due to the drift speed so I headed to the ground.
It was night and day with me getting four fish on the first drift, nothing big with the best going just over 3lb. That was the trend until I headed in happy with 12 kept and a few returned.
All fish were to shads and they got a hammering as the photo below shows.

I was going to go tomorrow as well but that wind is a bit strong for my liking so it will be after this northerly blow has settled.

    Graham.

Good to see your report Graham, yeh, a bump back to earth from your last report lol. It seems like most areas are running a bit late this year, but will hopefully pick up soon.

It's nice to see you out and about from Amble Graham. I'll probably be out on Sunday so perhaps see you there.

I got back from a fortnight in Brittany in the early hours of last Sunday, and by 9.30am was up in Amble to be out over the cill while there was enough water.

I took my lad, or really he took me, and as we saw so many boats heading down to Cresswell we decided to turn north and started a long drift from Alnmouth hard ground all the way past Boulmer. It was a big tide and the drift was over a knot, but it got the fish on the feed.

I must have had 30 or so codling within the first 3 hours, mostly in that 1-3lb range, but all aggressive takes and hard-fighting. Great fun. I stuck to the frozen prawns which outfished my lad using shads.

We then went in close, over the kelp looking for Pollack. I got one, but I got dozens and dozens of coalies up to around 1lb. Again, great fun on light gear, and with several on at once it felt more like I was into a string of mackerel. The occasional bigger kelpie gave a good scrap too.

Another long drift in the afternoon, but slower, and fewer fish, so we thought we'd pick up a few mackerel for tea from Coquet. What elusive creatures. I got one but it took me about half an hour, and as it started to rain we headed home. Good day out though.

I will be off on Sunday Adrian all being well. There's an ASAC members competition on that starts at 0600 until 1400.
Next week looks great so hopefully the wrecks are stuffed with whoppers by then!
I will drop you a text for fishing next week Arthur on Sunday night after I have agreed allowable days fishing with senior management.

            Graham.
